Have you ever had a video file or a music file that you can't play at a certain computer because the computer does not have a program that can read it?
Example me: I have a lot of songs on my flash drive, and if all my music was in mp3 format and it totaled to 100mb's i could convert to m4a and the same number of songs and the same length but half the size! Ok thats great, why doesnt everyone do it then? because not all computers have the software required to play an m4a files. Its sort of like this, to the computer everything is a file which has its own format and a computer on its own cant read the format, thats where Programs come in. If it were not for Windows Media Player, a WMA would just be another file to your computer not a song, same with an mp3. But since windows includes windows media player, this allows us to play mp3's and such, but windows media player can not play mp4, acc, m4a's, mov, qcp, 3g2, 3gg, and so on and so on. That is why you need another program that can, like say Itunes! it plays acc, mp4, mov, and so on, but it does not know how to play WMA. So if i go to another computer say like the ones at school, most of them do not have a program that plays m4a's, so to the computers instead of having a lot of songs, i just have a lot of unrecognized files. So it backfired, because i cant listen to my music at all!
Ok now what if i told you, you can play most of your videos and music on just about any computer with a usb port? thats right!
I would like you to meet VLC Media Player Portable! It can be stored in your flash drive, and opened on just about any computer, and it plays a lot of different video and music formats. Not just that but it also converts them.
why convert them?
Ok say you have a video project and you want to add a clip of Barrack Obama's speech, ok so you download the video using FIREFOX and the add ons i recommended, but its in FLV which the computer cant recognize, you say but you say VLC can play a lot of files! Correct it can, it can play VLC, but you have to make your video project on Windows Movie Maker, and that does not play VLC, so to Movie maker, a vlc is just a different file, not a video. So thats where VLC comes in again, you can convert it to a different format that Media Player can read, say for example Avi, or wmv! So problem solved.
